Promoting and defending democracy at home and abroad!
The International Association for Democracy (IAD) is an NGO that works to defend and advance democracy around the globe. We link people with their governments and lobby governments to promote, strengthen and safeguard democratic institutions, processes, norms and values at home and abroad. We also work towards raising public awareness about the current state of democracy around the world and what should be done to better defend and promote democracy.
IAD is currently looking for an experienced treasurer to join our vibrant Board of Trustees and help us ensure that IAD’s fiscal practices adhere to industry best practices to safeguard its financial position. The candidate must be able to commit 5-7 hours per week to this role.
Objectives of this Role
Be part of IAD’s Board of Trustees.
Provide a link between IAD’s Board and the Fundraising Team.
Maintain highly organised financial systems that facilitate IAD’s success Improve and uphold global treasury processes for compliance with regulatory controls and for operational efficiency.
Contribute to fundraising activities
Objectives of this Role
Develop annual budget that ensures adequate funding for the charity’s activities
Manage financial portfolio and prepare financial reports
Review and protect the IAD’s financial status
Write and present reports of the company’s forecasted and present financial status
Oversee the work of the Fundraising Lead, whilst actively getting involved in fundraising activities
Perform risk assessments on various IAD projects Ensure the organisation only invests in projects that are beneficial in the short and long term
Contribute to the development of financial strategies and policies
Enforce compliance with industry regulations and tax legislation
Handle receipts, banking and protection of company funds, securities and financial products
Report on IAD’s finances to charity and financial regulators
Skills and Qualifications
Knowledge of and previous experience in a charity treasury role.
Deep understanding of finance and treasury activities, including banking, cash and liquidity management.
Strong systems/technology skill set.
Ability to prioritise and lead multiple projects simultaneously.
Self-starter mentality Fluent in English Passion for democracy, rule of law and human rights.
Able to commit 5-7 hours per week to this role.
